Bee’s journey with photography started over 20 years and through time has evolved into being one of her primary mechanisms of action and contribution to diversifying visual representation in the media landscape. Her love for the craft has led her down various creative exploratory paths, but one primary focus has remained – producing work and pieces that represent and tell stories about people of color in all beauty and complexity.
All too often and for so long, American mainstream media has controlled stories and images of communities of color in irresponsible, and at times damaging ways. Today’s technical capabilities have allowed the people to take back some power to create, produce, and present their own visuals and narratives to the world.
In addition, Bee has furthered her work in the area of filmmaking, allowing her even more space for exploration and experimentation in the arts.
Bee’s passion to create and promote works that show the depth, beauty, variety, genius, soul, and much more of the people is a driving force in her craft.
She pulls inspiration from creative forces such as Ava Duvernay, Qasim Basir, Derek Blanks, Ramona Rosales, Blitz Bazawule, Spike Lee and more.
She sets to continue contributing and collaborating in this space, pushing creative bounds.
